WHY SAFE ERROR APPEAR ON DASH AFTER IMMO OFF? There may be more than one reason why the "SAFE" message appears on the screen after the immo off process in VAG group vehicles. But usually the main reason comes from communication failure between BCM or DASH and the KEY. The reason for the error messages on the screen is 99% not caused by the ECU If you do not want to receive such messages on the screen you will need to add a key to BCM or DASH or repair bcm/dash to key communication This message may also appear in some cases with incompatible engine ECU type. This could also happen if only flash immo-off is done on old type VAG ECUs. In these kind of ECUs you may prefer to perform immo-off in EEPROM. The same applies to PSA and other brand vehicles. WHAT IS THE MCUID? Some immo off operations (specially new generation ECUs) need MCU ID to be performed. You can see the MCUID information on the main screen or in the file name while reading the ECU with the flasher. It can be like 400XXX ...0000, usually consisting of 16 or 32 hexadecimal characters. This information can also be encrypted in the files Some devices show the MCUID information incorrectly. In this case, the immo off file does not work in the vehicle. It closes the ECU communication. 4B46915100001820 is not a valid MCUID! Some tools label this as a CHIP/CPU ID, but you need the MCUID which is unique and in MD1/MG1 units it begins with 40 WHY SOME FILES COULD BE WRONG? Every flasher use different methods. For example KESS3 have many bug after last update. PCR 2.1 MD1CS003 etc. Autotuner not support checksum on backups, KT200 may read bad MCUID. OBD read files/partial Virtual files does not include immo blocks. We prefer Flex/PCMFlash flasher for best clean dump files and good well known programmers for external eeprom reading when needed (older ECUs) WHY IMMO OFF DOES NOT WORK? 1. Key and Dash or BCM or EZS must be match in newer cars to CRANK ,if car does not crank you can try relay bypass method in fuse box engine bay 2. Immo off actions are done in Engine ECU, and that mean ECU RELEASE start signal, but you may need to give start (CRANK) signal to car when key ignition turn on 3. If Car key is not matched with Dash or BCM some extra problems are not unusual like dash immo message and windows' car not working in Audi cars 4. Main rule, remove immobox connector or immobox coil connector or sometime cut immo line from ecu or wires if needed by immo off method 5. Need good MCUID in newer ecu types. It's your responsability ensure the HW is compatible and also the SW is 100% compatible with your vehicle 6. Need checksum (many flasher can do it automatic while writting the file, other not, but you can find some free checksum tool in download section too) 7. VERY IMPORTANT !!! Some new ecu types are non clonable 1:1 like older ecus, now they have many anti-tamper methods (SHE,MCU ID,PASSWORD,OTP ETC) If you dont know it and someone before you tried to clone or messed with original dumps then ecu can be unuseable. NON RESTOREABLE TOO. Need new used SAME ecu You will probably notice it when you cannot read or write to it because of lost/unrecoverable PASSWORD and disabled SERVICE MODE after wrong flashing This is not newbie friendly procedure, be warned and be sure you always work on the safe side respecting some basic rules HOW SHOULD READ 93Cxx 16bit or 8bit? As general rule... Read/write as 16 bit if...The pin 6 (ORG) is connected to pin 8 (VCC) or The pin 6 (ORG) is left unconnected. Read/write as 8 bit if... The pin 6 (ORG) is connected to pin 5 (GND) Best whishes, OTOCHECK Team
